its actually should update 3 database tables with daily prices.
so you can use those entries from the database instead of making every time expensive
remote calls. the hook check if it has the latest prices and if not, than it makes a remote call to some pages what have it.
i would use redis or memcache instead of mysql in this case.

1.
define the 3 hooks in application/config/hooks.php

2.
than create the 3 hook files in /application/hooks/

3.
create 3 database tables what the hooks will fill if not yet done by the day.

4.
than access those updated database entries
