How to add an additional ip to debian os07.12.13

for example add an additional ip address 178.63.34.1 to the debian box you can add the following 2 lines to the /etc/network/interfaces file under eth0 up ip addr add 178.63.34.1/32 dev eth0 down ip addr del 178.63.34.1/32 dev eth0 07.12.13
