1. example: give your form fields id's like <form id="myform"> <input id="1" type="text" name="firstname"/> <input id="2" type="text" name="firstname"/> <input id="3" type="text" name="firstname"/> </form> 2. add this to your $(document).ready(function() like $(document).ready(function(){ $(".myform input").bind("keypress", function(e) { if (e.keyCode == 13 || e.keyCode == 9){ id = $(this).attr('id'); $(this).css('background-color','#fff'); i = parseInt(id)+1 $('#'+i).focus(); $('#'+i).css('background-color','#c1cdd2'); return false; } }); }); this check the key: tab and enter if yes it will get the id from the input field and set the background to white than it will convert the id into a integer and increment it to one after jquery will focus the next input field and set the background color to light blue 07.12.13
