example: (request.params['....'] is how ramaze get form data in) 1. you need 3 database fields: 1. login 3. crypted_password 4. salt 2. when you create an login name than you also create an random salt with the loginname string included somehow salt = Digest::SHA1.hexdigest("--#{Time.now.to_f}--#{request.params['login']}--") 3. with this salt you now encrypt the password crypted_password = Digest::SHA1.hexdigest("--#{salt}--#{request.params['password']}--") when you know authenticate, you just compare the encrypted entered password with the saved encrypted one. entered_password = Digest::SHA1.hexdigest("--#{user.salt}--#{request.params['password']}--") if crypted_password == entered_password #my_action else #my_action 07.12.13
