Kitty terminal emulator copy to clipboard
02.11.26
In the Kitty terminal emulator, copying and pasting works slightly differently than in standard terminals because Kitty has its own internal clipboard management and keyboard shortcuts. Here are the most common ways to do it: 1. The "Standard" Way (Keyboard Shortcuts) Kitty uses the standard Linux/Unix shortcuts, but you must include the Shift key if you are using the default configuration: Copy: Ctrl + Shift + C Paste: Ctrl + Shift + V Note: If those don't work, try just Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V, but in many terminal configurations, those are reserved for sending "Interrupt" signals to programs. 2. Using the Mouse Kitty is designed to handle the mouse natively. To Copy: Simply highlight the text with your mouse. Kitty automatically copies the selected text to the "primary" clipboard (which you can usually paste in other apps using the middle mouse button). To Paste: Right-click inside the terminal window to paste text from your system clipboard. 3. If you are using tmux or screen inside Kitty If you are running a terminal multiplexer like tmux inside Kitty, the shortcuts might be intercepted by tmux. To bypass tmux: Hold down the Shift key while selecting text with your mouse. This tells Kitty to ignore tmux and handle the selection itself. Once selected, use Ctrl + Shift + C to copy.
