10 books that cover the Monad from these various perspectives:

### Philosophical & Historical Foundations
1. **"The Monadology" by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz**
   * *The* definitive text on the subject. Leibniz argues that the universe is composed of infinite, simple substances called "monads," which are "windowless" yet reflect the entire universe. This is essential reading for understanding the modern philosophical use of the term.

2. **"The Enneads" by Plotinus**
   * Plotinus is the primary architect of Neoplatonism. He describes "The One" (the Monad) as the transcendent source of all existence. This book is crucial for understanding the Monad as a mystical, non-dual source rather than a mere mathematical point.

3. **"The Theology of Arithmetic" by Iamblichus**
   * A foundational text for Pythagorean philosophy. It explores the mystical significance of numbers, starting with the Monad as the origin of all things. It provides the ancient, sacred-geometry perspective on the concept.

### Esoteric & Occult Perspectives
4. **"The Secret Teachings of All Ages" by Manly P. Hall**
   * An encyclopedic work on esoteric philosophy. Hall dedicates significant space to the Pythagorean Monad and its role in the creation of the universe, bridging the gap between ancient science and mysticism.

5. **"The Kybalion" by Three Initiates**
   * While it doesn't use the word "Monad" exclusively, it is built entirely on the principle of "The All" (the Monad). It is a classic text for understanding the Hermetic view of the universe as a single, mental, and indivisible entity.

6. **"The Pythagorean Sourcebook and Library" edited by Kenneth Sylvan Guthrie**
   * A comprehensive collection of original writings by and about the Pythagoreans. If you want to see how the ancients viewed the Monad as the "seed" of the universe, this is the primary source.

### Modern & Comparative Approaches
7. **"The One and the Many" by W. Norris Clarke**
   * A brilliant work of Thomistic metaphysics that explores the relationship between the singular source (the Monad/The One) and the multiplicity of the world. It is excellent for those interested in the bridge between Western metaphysics and Eastern non-duality.

8. **"Monad to Man: The Concept of Progress in Evolutionary Biology" by Michael Ruse**
   * A fascinating look at how the idea of the "Monad" (as a unit of life or progress) evolved into modern scientific thought. It provides a secular, historical context for how we view "units" of existence.

9. **"The Great Chain of Being" by Arthur O. Lovejoy**
   * This classic study traces the history of the idea that the universe is a single, unified hierarchy. It touches upon the Monad as the starting point of this "chain" and is essential for understanding how Western thought has conceptualized the unity of reality.

10. **"The Hidden Geometry of Life" by Karen L. French**
    * A more accessible, visual exploration of how the Monad (the circle/the point) serves as the blueprint for all forms in nature. It connects the philosophical concept of the Monad to modern sacred geometry.

**A Note for your study:**
If you are coming from your interest in Buddhism, I highly recommend starting with **Plotinus (*The Enneads*)** or **W. Norris Clarke (*The One and the Many*)**. These will provide the most "bridge-building" material between the Western concept of the Monad and the Eastern concept of non-dual reality or "Buddha-nature."
