Roadmap for starting a Waldorf initiative in Salaya07.07.26

Here's a practical roadmap for starting a Waldorf initiative in Salaya, Thailand:
1. Study the pedagogy — Form a core group (20-30 people) and study Steiner's educational lectures together. Contact existing Thai Waldorf schools for guidance:
- Panyotai Waldorf School (Bangkok, est. 1996) — panyotai.com
- Tripat Waldorf School (Bangkok, est. 2000)
- Siratthaya Waldorf (under Siratthaya Foundation)
2. Start with a kindergarten — The Friends of Waldorf Education strongly advise starting a Waldorf kindergarten first. After 2-3 years of successful operation, expand to a school. This builds parent awareness and a pipeline for the first grade class.
3. Connect with the international network:
- Freunde Waldorf (freunde-waldorf.de) — provides guidance, WOW-Day support, and connects you with the global Waldorf community
- Hague Circle (International Forum for Steiner/Waldorf Education) — the global coordinating body
4. Legal setup in Thailand — You'll need to register as a foundation or association under Thai law. Salaya is in Nakhon Pathom province, near Mahidol University campus — this could be a good community base. Contact a Thai legal firm specializing in non-profit/educational registration.
5. Find teachers — Waldorf teachers require specialized training. Thailand has limited training programs — you may need to bring in experienced teachers or send locals abroad for training. The Tonrak Foundation has run remedial education teacher training in collaboration with German Waldorf institutions.
6. Secure a location — Salaya is well-connected (Bangkok-Noi railway, Phetkasem Rd). Find a space with outdoor/nature access, close to public transport.
7. Public outreach — Host public lectures on Waldorf education. If 60-100 people attend regularly, you likely have enough interested parents.
